First Babysitting for Matthew

Matthew

Yesterday I sent Matthew off to a babysitter. Rachel, neighbor’s teenage daugher,  picked him up at noon to take him to her house where Matthew is going to spend the afternoon. As they were walking away, Matthew’s one hand was holding a toy and the other holding Rachel’s hand. It broke my heart that he didn’t even look back. Before they left though I demanded him to blow kisses for me which he did, but he was too excited to get away to even linger a little bit more for me to return the kiss.

This was the time to finish unpacking and organizing our stuffs. Hubby hung our pictures and a few wall decorations. It’s amazing how I missed Matthew but then I welcomed the time when I can actually accomplish something without our little bucket of energy going through the stuffs.

Apparently, he had a busy afternoon. When I came over to pick him up he was sleeping. Lori, Rachel’s mom, assured me that he had fun while he was there and had a lot of playtime that when he got tired it didn’t take a long time for him to take a nap. So I left to let him sleep a little bit more. When I came back, we woke him up. When he woke up, he came up to Lori and not me. Another, heart breaker! But I thought this was to show that he was comfortable and happy with them and that he did had fun. He didn’t want to come home with me. He kept looking back while we were walking away from their house. I think Matthew thinks their house is house of fun. Even before, whenever we walk out of our door, he always drags me to the direction of their house. I can’t blame him, they do have lots of fun colorful toys and they have been really nice to us and playful with Matthew.

This is actually not the first time that Matthew is with a babysitter or someone else looking after him. It just felt that way! We have left him with some trusted friends in Japan twice. And his grandparents took care of him by themselves a few times.

  1. what’s nice is he is old enough in a way to let you know that he liked it there,i understand you being sad at the same time. Glad you got all your stuffs! FINALLY! happy unpacking and I hope you find places to put your things and your back feels better soon!

  2. child really appreciate everything about fun. Being comfortable with his babysitter would mean, the people you trusted, really take good care of him.

  3. I know it’s sad when they go to other people so easily but I think kids who do this are trusting of the bond with their parents and know that you will be back.

  4. Hi Charlotte!
We found your blog YAY! Very interesting to see your experiences written into cyberspace. I’ll have to consider starting my own. ONE DAY ! MAYBE! Sorry about the breaking heart feeling.. although I always say I won’t appologize for kids having fun at our house lol but I know exactly what you mean. My kids have just about all done this to me at one time or other.. they are like ~MOM WHO?!!! so you’re not alone. I take it as a compliment & it’s not that we’re more fun! lol It’s just a new place to hang out & I’m SURE if you took Rachael to YOUR house! lol she’d say ~MOM WHO?!! & you two would be singing the Karaoke as loud as can be without me around to turn it down lol…. We’re glad to have you as our new friend :-)
