I only knew about Thanksgiving when I got married. It’s a US Holiday that starts on the 4th Thursday of November until the weekend. Family gathers to have a meal together. There’s a whole history behind this, which I have learned from the history channel.
My husband has always taken the lead in the thanksgiving meal preparation. He cooks the turkey, prepares the potatoes and whatever we have planned for. Last year, he deep fried the whole turkey. We enjoyed the deep fried turkey better than the baked one. So he is doing it again! Also, we will be having pumpkin pie for the first time. I’ve never eaten a pumpkin pie before so this should be interesting.
We usually have the thanksgiving meal at about pass lunch time. After that, there’ll be so much turkey leftover,, that we will be eating everyday for the rest of weeks that follow. I always tell my husband to get a small turkey since it’s just primarily me and him consuming it. But he always comes home with the biggest turkey he can find. In time, I have managed to be creative in the preparation of turkey leftovers. I have tried adding it to spaghetti, to making adobo out of it, and there’s always turkey-sandwich option.
What’s another exciting thing about Thanksgiving, other than the usual 4-day holiday, is that during the Thanksgiving Weekend, we start decorating for Christmas. We start putting up the Christmas tree and all the trimmings. In the Philippines, our family starts decorating for Christmas in September. In the past year of our marriage, I have been very insistent to follow that tradition but my husband wouldn’t let me. He wouldn’t let me decorate for Christmas in September when Halloween and Thanksgiving is still coming. It does make sense though! What would the Halloween-costumed Trick-r-Treaters think when they come to our house that’s already in Christmas mood?! They’ll think we’re strange Christmas freaks!

He has a point, you know.
In the Philippines, we don’t have Halloween or Thanksgiving so we are very itchy for Christmas!
I have never done any Thanksgiving..the tradition and food thing, that is…it’s a remote idea for me. If I were there, I’d help you with the Turkey leftovers!
You’re so lucky that your husband does most of the Thanksgiving cooking. My husband can’t even make instant saimin! hee hee
We start decorating the day after Thanksgiving, too!
Thank you for stopping by!
Here’s a suggestion. You can send me the turkey via post if you guys are tired of eating it. =)
Happy Thanksgiving!
Try making turkey sandwich with foccacia bread, avocadoes and roasted tomatoes! super yummy! waaah!
We just finished our turkey feast. I posted pictures of it! How did you like your pumpkin pie? I love it! I wish we’d made one this year. But I decided to do a pumpkin chiffon pie instead…it was good, but the original is still the best!
Have a great weekend!
